No more secrets about the TOEIC 4-SKILLS!

#1 What is the TOEIC 4-SKILLS?

The TOEIC 4-SKILLS (Test of English for International Communication) is the essential certification for assessing the English level of non-native speakers. This adaptive, globally recognized test is made up of four components: Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing. You can take the test in a center or online, on paper or on a computer—whichever suits you best.

The TOEIC 4-SKILLS measures your ability to communicate in a professional environment. You should therefore focus your preparation on workplace-related content. The vocabulary used in the test is general and not specific to any particular industry.

Valid for two years: the TOEIC 4-SKILLS is a long-term investment in your professional future, with a two-year validity period.

Get ready to open new doors and seize international opportunities with the TOEIC 4-SKILLS!

#2 Why take the TOEIC 4-SKILLS and who is it for?
  • Boost your career: The TOEIC 4-SKILLS is a valuable asset for your academic or professional journey. Employers around the world—including in France, Japan, and South Korea—use this certification to assess candidates’ English skills.
  • Highlight your skills: A good TOEIC 4-SKILLS score enhances your resume and strengthens applications for jobs, exchange programs, and internships.
  • Measure your progress: Ideal for evaluating your English proficiency at the end of a training program, this test provides an accurate assessment of your abilities.
  • Global recognition: Millions of candidates take the TOEIC each year, proving its widespread use and credibility in the international job market.

There are two main types of candidates who take the TOEIC 4-SKILLS:

  • Professionals: Whether you're currently employed or job-hunting, the TOEIC 4-SKILLS helps demonstrate your ability to communicate in English in a professional context. Take it as part of a training program or on your own initiative.
  • Students: More and more universities and schools now require the TOEIC 4-SKILLS for admission to specific programs or graduation. This certification may be key to succeeding in your academic journey.
#3 What is the structure of the exam?
  1. Photographs: For each image shown, you’ll hear four possible answers. Only one describes the image correctly.
  2. Question-Response: You’ll hear a question followed by three answer choices. Choose the most appropriate response.
  3. Conversations: You’ll hear conversations between two people. Each conversation is followed by three questions with four answer choices each.
  4. Talks / Announcements: You’ll hear short monologues. Each monologue is followed by three questions, each with four answer choices.
  1. Read a text aloud: You must read two texts out loud.
  2. Describe a picture: You must describe two images.
  3. Respond to questions: You’ll respond to three questions on the same topic.
  4. Respond using provided information: You’ll answer three questions based on visual information provided.
  5. Express an opinion: You’ll give your opinion on a specific topic.
  1. Incomplete sentences: Independent sentences missing a word or phrase. Complete each using one of four answer choices.
  2. Text completion: Several texts with four missing words each. Complete the blanks with one of the four options.
  3. Reading comprehension: Read a series of unrelated texts and “multiple passages” (documents with 2 or 3 texts). Answer 2 to 5 questions per text.
  1. Write a sentence based on a picture: You'll be shown a picture and two words. Write a sentence about the picture using both words.
  2. Respond to a written request: Write an email in response to a specific situation, using a tone appropriate to the context.
  3. Write an essay: You'll be presented with a debate topic. Write a text explaining and defending your viewpoint.
#4 Test Structure for the Adaptive Format (Listening & Reading)

The adaptive Listening section includes 45 questions and lasts about 25 minutes. These 45 questions are divided into two units:

  • Unit 1 - 25 questions: This unit is the same for all candidates.
  • Unit 2 - 20 questions: This unit is determined by the candidate's performance in Unit 1.

At the end of Unit 1, the candidate's score is calculated to assess performance:

  • If performance is strong, the candidate will be directed to a “difficult” module for Unit 2;
  • If performance is weaker, the candidate will be directed to an “easy” module for Unit 2.
#5 Results and Score Report

The candidate's responses are recorded on the computer and then assessed by certified examiners appointed by the organization responsible for the TOEIC 4-SKILLS test.

The scores for the Speaking and Writing sections are provided to the candidate separately. Each score is calculated based on the results of each question within its respective section.

These scores range from 0 to 200 and are linked to specific skill descriptors.
